Custom shop sign prices depend on fascia width, construction, illumination, materials, installation access and electrical work. A simple non-lit panel usually costs less than individually illuminated built-up letters. Ask for an itemised quotation showing artwork, manufacture, delivery, fixing, electrics, VAT and consent responsibilities before comparing suppliers.

Two signs that look similar in a mock-up may use different metals, acrylic thicknesses, LED modules, power supplies, coatings and fixings. Access equipment and wiring can also alter the installed price. Compare the complete specification, warranty exclusions and responsibilities rather than the headline total alone.

A good photograph can help communicate style and position, but may not provide a production-ready outline or accurate proportions. A sign maker may need to redraw the logo and confirm fonts, colours and dimensions before approval. Ask whether artwork reconstruction is included in the quote and proof process.

Traditional glass neon uses gas-filled glass tubing, while LED neon-style products use LEDs behind a diffuser to create a similar visual line. They differ in construction, power, maintenance and effects. Confirm exactly which product the quote covers and compare real photographs rather than relying on the word "neon".

Many illuminated signs require express advertisement consent, while some signs benefit from deemed consent under specific conditions. Listed buildings, conservation areas and local restrictions can change the position. Check with the local planning authority before ordering, and separately confirm any landlord, highway, listed-building or electrical approvals needed.

Electrical connections should be planned and installed by a suitably competent person using applicable UK electrical safety requirements. Ask whether the quote includes power supplies, isolation, cable routes, protective measures and commissioning. Do not assume that supplied wiring diagrams mean electrical installation is included in the sign price.

The sign quotation should clearly state whether safe access equipment, traffic or pavement permissions, evening work and disposal of the previous sign are included. These can be substantial extra costs for elevated fascia signs. Ask suppliers to compare a supply-only figure with a fully specified installed figure.

Begin the sign brief early, but avoid approving final manufacture until the mounting area, finished sizes and electrical routes are confirmed. Changes to cladding, shutters or ceiling heights can invalidate drawings. Ask for an opening schedule linking landlord permission, artwork approval, manufacture, delivery and installation.
